Joshua Abelow
Painter and writer Joshua Abelow’s (b. 1976) work is a practice in abstract autobiography. His geometric paintings capture his personal relationship with color at particular points in time, described through handwritten notes he calls “color codes” on the back of the canvas—just one of many forms with which he pursues his impulse to document his experiences and observations. Through poetry, paintings, drawings, and essays, he pieces together interconnected stories from his life with a touch of satire and a taste for the absurd.
