Katarina Riesing explores confrontational intimacy in her drawings, which quiet and bewitching. She paints close ups of intimate areas of women’s bodies — sensual, but also painful. Riesing adds acne, scratches, and scars to her figures while maintaining an aesthetic of delicacy and opulence. Skin imperfections blend together with the richly detailed patterns of fabric, adding a twist to the canonical history of female nudes.
